Friend O’ Mine (You know who you are!) 🙂
Gratitude is literally one of the healthiest minds a person can have. It makes you wonder why we don’t have more of them. Could it be that it’s been taken over by the mind too busy wanting more to appreciate what it already has? Or could it be that it has simply forgotten what it has to be thankful for…or both?
If we truly know what we have to be thankful for, then we truly know what we have to lose. During his first year in office, President Kennedy issued a Thanksgiving proclamation that began with, “It’s a good thing to give thanks to the Lord.” …and calling on each head of the family to take time “to tell the children about New England’s first thanksgiving day,” the Pilgrim one in 1623.
50 years later, his successor sees fit to remove the essential reference to our Lord in the most sacred text of our founding document. And as I write these words, he removes the most sacred symbol from the very heart of our military http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/69039.html
But today is not for the mind of anger and regret. Today is for the mind of gratitude and appreciation for the many blessings we share. I wish to focus on the blessings of family and friends to be specific. It is no accident that my family is my family and my friend is my friend. There is a deeper purpose to our relationship to one another, and it is our most important discovery.
I thank God for the awakening to the true nature of the world around me. I thank God for every life that has touched mine…good or bad, it has brought me closer to the realization of self, and this life’s purpose. And I am especially thankful for the Three Percent the Founders counted on to save the Republic when everyone else abandoned it…because we are as much alive and ready today as we were then!
In the summer of our lives now, we were brought together
to share this special season, no matter what the weather brings…
Friend O’ Mine.
I especially Thank God for You!
