The Silver Moon Knows…

The silver moon knows, when the sun goes away, tomorrow she will shine on Independence Day.

Attachment is dependence…on people, places and things. Every single one of us is dependent on the somebodies we love, the some places we live, and somethings we’ve all come to need. BUT…When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitles them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation…

Jefferson goes on beautifully to connect the “self-evident truths” of our “inalienable rights” to the “pursuit of Happiness” from our Heavenly authority to the primary purpose of the earthly one as authorized and empowered by we the people. The most amazing ingredient to me in Jefferson’s insightful acknowledgment of the proper relationship between man and both authorities, is dignity. Dignity is the oxygen in relationship. There simply is no relationship without dignity. There is only separation or bondage…as the late Elie Wiesel knew first hand.

When alas, we find ourselves in relationship of any sort, whether it be with employer, governor, or spouse, wherein we are required to accept or deny an objective reality to benefit the one at the expense of the other, we are impelled by the death of dignity to separate. Even though it should literally break our hearts to do so. There is no paycheck so enriching, law so well enacted, or love so loving that should or could compel any self-respecting soul to ever do otherwise.

In fact, to right the wrong thinking of the person who is acting otherwise in any of these relationships is the most loving and often courageous undertaking we can assume. These are the darkest times I have ever known because we have allowed the worst of man’s character into the highest positions of earthly authority…and every well is poisoned. And still the silver moon knows what the silver moon knows…that the difference between the liberation in a man’s heart and a liberation by decree is the dignity we all deserve.

I wish you peace in your pursuit of happiness in this world. And I leave you with this song I wrote on this exact day in 2009, which came to me as I was putting out my flag.

The person who made the video had NO idea who “my cousin Rocky” was. Yet his name appears on the Viet Nam Memorial Wall in this clip (James R Dean Jr.). He was a chopper pilot shot down NY Eve 1969…58,000 names on the wall…4 million images on the internet…she miraculously picked the images with his name (coming from lower left at 1:29 mark)…
