The Sunday Morning Tune-up ~ Retirement?

The Best Laid Plans...

The Best Laid Plans…

The long and winding road that leads to your door, Will never disappear, I’ve seen that road before It always leads me here, Leads me to your door.      ~ The Beatles last #1 song…before they retired.

Twenty-two years ago, I changed career paths from healthcare supply sales to retirement planning. I guess I saw greater need and opportunity there. My parents’ generation on average retired with a “defined benefit” pension and fewer retirement years to fund, while my generation was expected to fund our own retirements and live longer healthier lives in our retirements. Good problems to have…with the right insurance, investment, and planning. It all made so much sense.

But the problem with planning, as John Lennon so famously quipped, is that life is what happens to us while we’re busy making other plans…and oh, how so many, many of us have missed, are missing and will continue to miss the greater mark is astounding to me.

As a planning professional, my goal is to help people maintain their desired lifestyle in and throughout their retirement years. But as human beings, and especially those of us blessed to have grown up in the greatest and freest nation on earth, isn’t there a much higher aim and greater mark? Isn’t there much more to this life than a desired lifestyle?

My doctor told me this week that he is retiring next month, and I thought to myself he kept me healthy for the last twenty years…go in peace. On the other hand, there are retiring Jewish Reform rabbis and United Methodist pastors who’ve deserted their bimahs and pulpits long before their own retirements, leaving their flocks to the wolves after leading them away from God and into the Orwellian soul-killing fields of political-correctness and social-justice! And I thought to myself, may God forgive them. Which is exactly why General Boykin prescribed “courage” as the only cure for our nations woes, and singled out the clergy first, as those in the greatest need of it, to an assembly of 500 Christians gathered in Albany last week.

And the shepherd’s disgrace is easily equaled by their tag-team-confederates in academia; one softened the mind for the other to poison the soul. And the teachers are among the few who, after turning your child and mine into activist-robots for the State, will enjoy the greener “defined-benefit” pastures in their retirement…while their students advocate for the end of free speech and “white genocide” at Harvard of all places, in the wake of their destruction.

Liberty and Freedom-Fighter/Activist Tom DeWeese develops the picture a bit further, framing the evil in its more global context:

Every day more of the agenda is implemented. This is what you are fighting at home – no matter what the issue. Almost every community in America now has some sort of “visioning statement” designed to control development and property use, while dictating rules for business, transportation, water use, food production, and much more.

Our public schools have been transformed, away from academic institutions, becoming, instead, factories that pump out a worker class to fill the needs of a centrally-controlled sustainable economy.

Christianity has come under attack because it is the foundation of Western civilization, which is the root of the ideas of limited government and individual freedom. Those ideals must be crushed in the new Sustainable world where individual thought would turn the well-ordered society of Sustainable Development into chaos. And in such a world, you dare not have any armed citizens. As I said, it is all one crushing transformation stemming from Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. ~ “Sustainable Development”, The Evil Facing America

So after Americans have been treated to seven-and-a-half-years of Obama treachery and Clinton scandal, it is both revealing and depressing to witness their shock, awe, and outrage over the candidacy of Donald Trump. Read and weep as one Liberal actually makes the case for Lucifer over Trump, while a retired CEO tries a more reasonable approach to our collective senses.

How can you possibly plan for a world gone so completely mad? How does one retire in such a world as this? …when every day requires us more and more to be good neighbors of Auschwitz…completely blind to the “silver in the streets”. From Ezekiel 7:

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.

3 Now is the end come upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations.

4 And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

5 Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come.

6 An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come.

7 The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains.

8 Now will I shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations.

9 And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.

10 Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.

11 Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither shall there be wailing for them.

12 The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

13 For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, which shall not return; neither shall any strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.

14 They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the battle: for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

15 The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

16 But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.

17 All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water.

18 They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads.

19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

20 As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominations and of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.

21 And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it.

22 My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile it.

23 Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.

24 Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled.

25 Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none.

26 Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.

27 The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Author’s Note: Our Lord had the best retirement plan of them all! Palm Sunday was his Retirement Party! He who would retire death itself in a matter of days…Hosanna in the Highest. “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.” ~ Jesus at Capernaum…White Funeral anyone?
