The Holy Week Tune-up ~ The Harrowing of Hell

The Saving Grace

Welcome to Holy Saturday, the great In-Between Heaven and Hell, Life and Death. To the minds of those who loved him most, their Rabbi lay entombed and decomposing…when in fact, he was descending into Hell to “proclaim good tidings to the dead”. If yesterday was the devil’s worst day, today is no better. Now, after losing the greatest battle ever fought, our Lord is invading the heart of the devil’s domain to awaken the dead and free the tormented.

Many of us can think of a time and a place where we thought that things were so bad, they could never get worse, and never get better. Think about the instant you saw the light and the way out of your suffering. You might have even thought of it as hell. But imagine you are in a place a thousand times darker and more painful than that FOREVER, and suddenly the Father-King you never knew has come to save you. I can’t tell you how often I am told its all over…there’s no coming back. Really?

How did we get to this modern-day Mordor…this dank grey in-between place of death, hopelessness, and despair? On the heels of the 5-yr-old boy thrown off the 3rd story balcony by a Somali Muslim in Minnesota (he’s recovering thank God), the devastating Notre Dame fire which was declared arson-free minutes after it started, Atif Qarni, a Muslim with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, ISNA, and CAIR, is sworn in as Virginia’s new Secretary of Education…on the Koran. Within minutes of posting the article on Facebook, my Catholic friend was labeled a bigot by a “Progressive” Seattle University professor who declares himself a “defender of basic liberal values of religious freedom and tolerance and equal respect”.

God is connecting these events in this holiest week of the year for a reason. Jesus descended into hell to awaken. God wants us awake and informed. We used to know and understand simple things like, where there’s smoke there’s fire. Why don’t we anymore?

That’s when I discovered another defender of basic liberal values of religious freedom and tolerance and equal respect in Progressive Pastor John Pavlovitz, who seems to have room in his heart for everyone but President Trump, Conservative Christians, and Patriotic Americans. He authored The Heresy of Christian Nationalism back in February. This is a very revealing read into the heart and mind of Progressivism. By the way, did you know that the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Flyers have officially removed the traditional game-opening song God Bless America, and covered up the Kate Smith statue in Philadelphia?

Oh, God hadn’t finished revealing yet. Kathleen Pulis, may she rest in peace, passed away in March. She was a first-grade schoolteacher at my old George Washington Elementary School in Wyckoff NJ. On the surface, you don’t get much more apple pie Americana than Kathleen Pulis. But reading her obituary, I came across the fact that she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star…which led me to this article, Why No Christian Woman Should Join The Order Of The Eastern Star.

The grey in-between is no place to live. The fact is that Jesus conquered death in the battlespace of principalities and powers. I did not know Kathleen Pulis, but I’d be willing to bet she had no idea she was engaged in Satanic Arts. “She may not know it, but in bowing before the altar of the Star, the inverted pentagram of Baphomet, she has surrendered herself (however innocently) to the gods of Masonry. That WILL give Satan an entry point into her life, no matter how devout a Christian she may be.”

We were the dead before He came to awaken us. The Harrowing of Hell is over for us, IF…

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
