The Easter Sunday Tune-up ~ Victory

The Resurrection by Benvenuto di Giovanni, 1491

O bear my longing heart to Him who bled & died for me                                Whose blood now cleanses from all sin and gives me victory.                                ~ Ralph Stanley, Angel Band

When we awaken here, the liar’s arrows no longer pierce the nature of our true being. His nets can no longer capture what we’re born into through God’s love, mercy, and grace. We are literally “shielded in our armor”. We see and feel with His heart and mind, the pain and misery at the source of the lies and madness they wove for us, only to entomb themselves.

The most amazing thing about this victory, unlike every other, is that we want all to have it. I had an interesting exchange with my new friend on Facebook, who happens to be Jewish and shares almost all of my political views. I had posted an article about Planned Parenthood keeping babies alive to harvest their organs for profit, with the comment “Pray for these people to return to God this weekend.” She responded with a prayer for “their death” with the “sword of David”…and a little, what I took as tongue-in-cheek, shot at “you Christians and this forgiveness thing.”

If you’ve never seen Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ”, I urge you to do so. It made my Good Friday exceptionally more meaningful. Among his last dying words, as he hung nailed to the cross, his flesh ripped open, the thorns digging into his skull, after the beating, mocking, and scourging, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” What Jesus meant was, they did not realize that they were doing these things to the “Messiah”…they did not understand the “Kingdom”…in much the same way as Abby Johnson in the movie Unplanned didn’t understand the “Hell” of Planned Parenthood…until, by the grace of God, she did.

And what was the very first thing Abby did as a convert? She saved two souls!

  2. Dee says:

I am afraid that we must exercise those spiritual muscles of forgiveness this weekend. We must try to see the bombing of the churches in Sri Lanka as our Lord sees them and say, “forgive them for they know not what they do.” Happy Easter to all. May the sacrifice that our Lord made comfort and strengthen us all as we run the race of this earthly life.

  3. Kathleen Zebzda says:

    Amen! Alleluia!
