I once took a monstrous spinning back kick directly to my “button” which knocked me as down and out as I had ever been! The “button” is the center of your chin where a direct kick or punch of moderate force is all it takes to turn out the lights! It was the learning experience that taught me to cover up…AND to get back up.
I wasn’t out for more than 30 seconds…but in those 30 seconds I didn’t know who or where I was! Even as I opened my eyes on the floor of the dojo to look up at the smiling faces circled above me, it took me a few seconds to realize who they were…and who I was.
I have to tell you…This is the absolute dead on perfect metaphor for America right now! The 30 seconds is more like 30 years, but we’ve been stone cold knocked down and out just the same. And the few seconds has been more like a few years for the who’s and the where’s to really sink in. Only instead of supportive Sensei around me encouraging me to get back up, I hear the constant drone of what seems like thousands of voices from thousands of places telling me to stay down…to give up…to give in.
And then just as my heart is sinking to their cue…a voice cuts through the hypnotic chatter with a power so deep and resounding it seems to stop time itself. I hear the amazing voice of Josh Boston…
Senator Dianne Feinstein,
I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.
I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.
I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.
We, the people, deserve better than you.
Cpl, United States Marine Corps
…and I am suddenly a Wide Awake American in America again! Thanks Corporal! 🙂
