Between Barack & a Hard Place

Look, up in the sky! It's Zero Man!

Look, up in the sky! It’s Zero Man!

I was at a graduation party over the weekend. It was a very nice group of people, most of whom happened to be Jewish Liberals. Much of the conversation among the adults centered primarily around the activities of the board and the new administration at their temple. But when the conversation turned to the internet and the latest revelations brought to light by Edward Snowden concerning what big eyes and ears grandma has, I was hardly prepared for what the woman sitting next to me said, “We don’t matter any more.”

I thought to myself, “WOW! It’s one thing for my Conservative lips to utter those words. It’s quite another to hear these words coming from a congregant of one of the most Liberal Jewish Reform communities in New York! I would have loved to explore her feelings further, but this wasn’t the time or the place. I simply let the thought of a growing patch of common ground seep into my heart where it could be nurtured for some future manifestation.

Think about what it takes for a person to feel that they no longer matter. My last writing was on the subject of Inequity. In fact, I had only finished it that very morning. One minute I was writing about the surrender and loss of power, and the next minute I’m sitting with a person who is speaking to me about losing power as if she had never felt she owned it to begin with. And her husband was an attorney…not that that should matter as far as her own power-awareness is concerned. But God knows most attorneys know a thing or two about power! I digress…

What in the world has become of We the People? The only thing worse than believing WE don’t matter any more is accepting that WE don’t matter any more. So, I’m sharing this whole experience the next day with my work associate Jack who also happens to be a Liberal Jew…now I know it appears that I’m picking on the Liberal Jews, but the fact of the matter is that I’m completely and utterly flabbergasted how the same ethnic group that witnessed it’s near total extermination due to willful blindness can be so willfully blind yet again! Anyway, Jack draws me into a mini debate that neither of us want because Joe and Mika reassured him on “the news this morning” that it was just confirmed that the IRS targeted “Occupy” & “Progressive” folks too…and that I’m “just being paranoid for not trusting the government to do what it needs to do to keep us safe”, which segued into a parry over the 2nd Amendment before he conceded the need for balancing our need for security with our Constitutional rights…all in all a civil exchange.

There’s something about watching Obama say the words “rule of law” that triggers a kind of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious moment for me…pure political fantasy!

The same agency that targeted Americans based on their political beliefs (for which they received promotions and bonuses), sent $7,319, 518.00 in “refunds” to one bank account used by 2,706 ILLEGAL ALIENS( Holy Amnesty Batman! ), spent $50,000,000 in two years on “conferences” (PARTIES)…we now want to place in charge of this:

This is not who we are! This is not what we came here for! This is our death warrant…a blueprint for our enslavement! Even the loftiest Noble hangs on the whim of his King, which is all the best of us could hope for in this plot! We are sleepwalking ourselves directly into the noose of tyranny…with no smelling salts in sight! How is it that my Jewish friends are sleeping so soundly?

Our nation’s chief executive flops impotently about the world stage mumbling to himself something about carbon emissions, while the rest of the world sees a fool who’s lost all credibility and respect speaking gibberish to the people who need straight talk…as we endure yet another day of living between Barack and a hard place!

  1. Kim says:

Good post, Chip. We should not and cannot accept our government’s actions WHENEVER they contradict our Constitution. Our “Rights shall not be infringed” does not mean it’s alright for our government to “strong arm” a particular group with whom we may not agree. If we allow this to happen in any way, we open the floodgates to give our government powers it does not deserve nor should be allowed to wield.
